From my office:
I'm back from my hols in Western Australia, and wanted to share some of the animal pics with you. I did actually do quite a bit of work whenever we had down time - wasn't a half bad mobile office!
The most exciting thing we did was swim with a Whale Shark - omg, epic!!
Before you panic, here's some info about whale sharks:
- Yes, they are a shark (not a whale)
- And, they're the BIGGEST shark (can be up to 18m long, and are the 'largest fish known to science')
- BUT, apparently their throat is the size of a human fist; they are filter feeders, which means they swim with their mouth wide open catching plankton, or sucks in volumes of water and with it food.
So, no danger (as long as you're respectful), just the most amazing placid creatures.
A few people have asked me if I 'chatted' to the whale shark?
No - I was totally sending out good vibes to manifest its presence though, and sent lots of love and gratitude! 💜

The second bucket list animal experience was visiting Rottnest Island and meeting the Quokkas.
I have mixed feelings about this one.
Quokkas are a bit like a very large rat (lol); herbivore; marsupial; and, importantly, 'mostly nocturnal'.
The Australian / Western Australian / Perth tourist boards all seem to do a pretty hard sell on visiting the Quokkas, how unafraid of humans they are (though obviously you're not allowed to touch or feed them), and, of course, how to get a selfie with them.
However... we did a bus trip right round the island and didn't see ANY... until we got back to the area where there are most humans, shops, cafes etc... that's where the quokkas hang out...
To me, they didn't look all that healthy (I've since found out that they do have health issues, eg are prone to salmonella).
Whilst it was really cool to see them 'in the wild' (if you can call it that, lol - though we did see one hopping very fast up a flight of steps which was amazing), I can't help feeling that they're being exploited by tourism.
I did connect with the one below and asked permission for a photo (yes), and asked if they minded all the people (no). 🤷♀️

At one other place we stayed we were just getting settled in when we heard loud meowing from the corridor.
Of COURSE I opened the door, d'uh! In sauntered Jed, the most gorgeous big fluffy cat, who made himself at home on our bed with lots of cuddles until it was time for us to go for dinner.
Made my day!
